139DEC - FALL/WINTER 2018
Friday - 11:22am, a grey blanket drapes over the sky releasing a continuous stream of misty drizzle, as I glance through the semi transparent pane of glass separating me from the outside world, a shiver slithers down my spine as thoughts of being wrapped in that wet blanket take control. Minutes roll in to hours as the wheels of time race towards the non existent finish line. I send a probe down in to my brain but not one piece of excellence is returned to the surface, numbly clicking through folders, in my zombie like state, I stumble across the latest editorial from 139DEC and the dark thoughts engulfing my mindset slowly disappear.
This brand needs no introduction, they have featured heavily on unconventional for a few seasons and their evolution has been a joy to perceive. For the latest collection the designers focus on protection, creating cocoon like silhouettes in weather resistant fabrics to protect the wearer from the onslaught of mother natures elements. Shadowing you from your own invulnerabilities, invoking an inner calmness through their elegantly designed armour, portraying each piece as something more than just clothes.
The collection is severe and rigid, with a strong focus on form and feelings, as materials take a discreet backseat and the shapes are marvelled for hours. "We do not produce clothes, we create engineering forms of beauty"
Over-run by religious motives, inspiration is drawn from traditional monk robes. As the adaptation of their inspiration sources collide with their emotions each piece from the FW18 collection is born. A muted scale of grey is the chosen palette for the season, highlighting the elegantly cut patterns and intricate stitching techniques.
