IROFUSI - 2019 S/S 葎 – mugura –
Bleary eyed and hunched over the keyboard, 'Everywhere At The End Of Time - Stage 5' from The Caretaker fills the void from which silence engulfs. A deep intake of breath fills the senses with the rich aroma the emanates from the creamy espresso nestled in the tapered mug crafted by Jono Smart. With the weight of the week precariously balancing upon my shoulders, As I gather what strength remains, I take a sip of the devilish nectar to jump start my brain into action.
My focus drifts away from visions of sleep and the dulcet tones of a crackling fire to that of Irofusi, the latest menswear brand to join unconventional (end of November).
The design concept of IROFUSI is to revive the traditional Japanese “Wabi-Sabi (beauty within simplicity)” sense of beauty, which is to admire the natural and accidental quality of things. “Wabi-Sabi” is to “feel the natural deep and mellow beauty within loneliness and emptiness”. It is the feature of Japanese culture, which discovers beauty within deterioration as time elapses. Everything derives from nature. Then collapses, and goes back to nature a continuous cycle of destruction and creation. Their aim is to recognise and redefine the ancient Japanese emotional sense of beauty, which is to respect the beauty of evanescence.
Simplistic silhouettes collide with soft tones of the dye treatments, creating a subtle aesthetic with a nod towards traditional Japanese clothing.
