JAMES HOCK - CONCEPTUAL BASICS
We are proud to present James Hock, a new addition to our portfolio of contemporary designers. The London-based conceptual unisex brand is headed by Malaysian-born designer, James Hock. Before moving to London, James lived in Sydney, Australia, where he studied Accounting.
After graduation, he travelled back to Malaysia and it was during this time he began customising clothing and accessories for a store whilst being taught to sew by his housemate and working as an auditor. Shortly after this, James left for London and continued to make unorthodox accessories for numerous independent stores.
Realising that if he wanted a career in fashion he would need to develop his skills further, James studied a City & Guilds certificate for a year and then went on to study a BTEC National Diploma, which helped to develop his skill set extensively. Upon graduating, the James Hock brand was born.

James Hock creates the ‘new basics’, or unconventional basics, and thrives on an aesthetic led by strong juxtapositions, contrasting the simplistic with a signature raw element. James is known for using techniques developed during his career in customisations which have now become a big part of the James Hock brand.
Importantly, conceptual pieces sit alongside simpler varieties to ensure ease of wear. James' continuous experimentation with shapes, fabrics and detailing ensure a continuously developing aesthetic and consequently, a rapidly growing following from an international audience. Off-beat accessories remain a strong part of the brand aesthetic. Most of James Hock's products are Made in England if not hand-finished in England.
