PRESENTING - MARTIN ACROSS 'LANDSCAPER'
PRESENTING - MARTIN ACROSS 'LANDSCAPER' GRADUATE COLLECTION//
Introducing emerging menswear Barcelona-based designer Martin Maldonado, and his graduate collection entitled ' The Landscaper'. The recent Westminster University graduate unveiled his Autumn/Winter 2015 collection embodying nomadic and ethereal elements, set in an Icelandic environment, filled with rocky plains and brave voyagers who seem willing to explore it. Characterised by round soft curves, multiple layering forms, defined lines and exaggerated shapes, Maldonado’s label, Martin Across, is influenced by his short lived interest in architecture, a major that he initially studied while he was a student at Pratt University.
Feeling limited by the lack of creativity he was allowed to employ as an architectural student, Maldonado decided to delve into the world of appliques, fabrics and sketching designs instead. Inspired to follow his interest in fashion from his mother, who taught him the basic elements of colour theory, shape and volume Maldonado combines this with his artistically mandated independence, great sense of adventure and cultural awareness. Due to his upbringing, he heightened his intellectual curiosity in the arts, which led him to begin drawing and illustrating concepts that coincided with his fascination with hyperrealism, a genre of painting and sculpture that he used in sketching the designs for his debut collection. In this assemblage, his voyagers are climbing rocky mountains wearing earthy hued midi length sweaters overlaying thick ribbed turtlenecks, conquering the roughest feat wearing high-top platform sandals, wool bell-shaped hats and gloves, finished off with tinted leather strapped avant-garde eyewear.
