OBJECT - BEHIND THE CRAFT

An Autumnal dew beams through the condensated panes of the office casting soft shadows across the workspace, entrancing and enticing unsuspecting workers into a dream like state. Snapping back to reality I begin tapping away at the keyboard with a feverish enthusiasm to indulge readers (if any) with the leather craft of Object.

A short introduction to Object: Built around his signature dark aesthetic, Object is derived from a conceptual approach towards fashion design. Designer Ryan Heard produces limited edition artisanal pieces from his UK studio. All materials are sourced individually and garments are hand sewn with a high end craftsmanship, forming the foundations for the avant-garde label. This contemporary concept combines specialist dye treatments with hand painted finishes and unique stitching techniques.

Leather; a fundamental material binding man to nature with its versatile and durable organic texture that can be molded to give a supple or coarse touch, while retaining its flexibility and resistance to wear.

DISSUADE: Breaking the monotony of a classic leather style Dissuade challenges the rules of convention with it's unique pattern construction, allowing the wearer to play with volumes and layers as the jacket interacts with the individuals form. Crafted from a thick full grain goat leather with an asymmetric two way YKK black oxide zipper closure gives this piece a raw primordial feel.

TREATMENT: Individually hand washed to increase the suppleness, the leather is then transformed through a snuffed dry finish to achieve the matte aesthetic. A subtle layer of oil is then applied to enhance the natural colouration and texture, while a layer of wax is hand painted over the open scar stitched seams to reinforce vulnerable sections of the pattern and increase longevity.

DETAILS: Black steel staples form the stoppers for the rubber dipped oxide zippers with waxed zipper pulls, giving a sense of a strong industrial construction. A soft black cotton lining provides a desolate landscape for the single zipper closure pocket.

VELLUM - BLACK // GREY: A leather jacket with a split personality. The singular silhouette is juxtaposed with two contrasting finishes and atypical elements for a truly avant-gardist piece. The leather has been treated to create a sense of return to the roots through nature-inspired textures and colourations

TREATMENT: The black Vellum has undergone a rigorous washing treatment giving the cow leather an almost liquid like texture to the touch. In contrast to this simplistic finish the grey Vellum has been patterned from a thick buffalo leather that has been meticulously hand buffed to form an uneven texture with sporadic colour patterns.

DETAILS: As with the silhouette both Vellum styles share the array of subtle details that complete the aesthetic. Rubber dipped black oxide zippers with waxed zipper pulls complete the closure mechanisms that finish their journey at the foot of a stepped collar. Contrasting open scar stitched seams fuse together the unique pattern construction giving the illusion of an unbalanced landscape. A soft black cotton lining provides a layer of softness to the interior that houses the single zipper closure pocket.
