WILLIAM BASINSKI - A SHADOW IN TIME
William Basinski, an avant garde composer, sound sculptor and video artist. Throughout the 80s Basinski worked with tape loops, analog keyboards and mellotron to assemble a formidable body of work. In 2001, Basinski intended to create new masters of achival recordings, but the sound of their decay led to the four-volume "The Disintegration Loops (2002-2003), which Basinski matched with his video footage of the World Trade Center, recorded on September 11, 2001 while on his roof.
Basinski's releases kept flowing, and The Disintegration Loops were performed as part of the ten-year anniversary concert Remembering September 11.
In His latest release "In A Shadow In Time", Basinski plunges deeper than ever for the plaintive, solitary eulogy to David Bowie, aptly titled “For David Robert Jones.” Conversely, the title track, “A Shadow In Time,” is a subtle, celestial escalation of melody and drone. The result is one of the most truly transcendent pieces of music he has ever committed to – or wrung from – tape.
