YOHJI YAMAMOTO FW17
YOHJI YAMAMOTO - FW17
With a career spanning more than 30 years, Yohji Yamamoto has captivated the runways of Paris with his avant garde collections and dark poetic aesthetic. Yamamoto's latest delivery was no exception. Elegant tapered suits and fitted waistcoats with plunging curved necklines were buttoned at angles and disrupted by knee-length coats revealing splashes of colour that gently coerced the eyes through the monochrome palette. As the show progressed, splashes of crimson, camel and blue exploded into a crescendo of contrasting patterns and illustrations.
The silhouette shifted alongside the colour palette towards softer and looser forms: rounded shoulders appeared on the coats, shirts became longer in length and the trousers fell victim to a voluminous cut. Shirting adorned with cascading asymmetrical collars added an abstract aesthetic to the torso and were worn under suits with slogans that read, “Japan! This is for you”. This collection was yet again another celebration of Yamamoto’s signature style that continues to evolve, cementing the Japanese designer at the forefront of avant garde menswear.
